Swept Away

The San Antonio Spurs made quick work of the Cleveland Cavaliers with a four-game sweep in the NBA Finals. Predictable as it may have been, the Cavs should have been able to get at least one win on their home court. It was just another case of Western Conference domination and another ring for Tim Duncan and company.

The Cavs did make that next step by reaching The Finals, and LeBron James can only get better with the experience. But for now, it was men against boys.

Baby Bryant

Kobe Bryant got his way – twice. First, Phil Jackson leaves the Lakers (and eventually returned). Then Shaquille O’Neal is traded to Miami. Now after a quick exit in the NBA playoffs, Bryant is making waves again.

According to reports, Bryant met with team owner Jerry Buss while both were vacationing in Europe (tough lives) and requested to be traded. He apparently is upset that the team did not make any moves, including trading for Jason Kidd. Bryant would like to see the team acquire some veteran talent and move the likes of 19 year-old center Andrew Bynum.

If he does go on the block, which is hardly imaginable, teams will line up with offers. With the NBA Draft only nine days away, the rumors will be flying unless the Lakers make a definitive statement right away.

Will Isiah Thomas make a call to Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak? Surely he will, but what could he offer the Lakers? There is nothing there to even begin negotiaitions with.

Spurs One Win Away

With the San Antonio Spurs up 3-0 in the NBA Finals, fans have to take the series for what it is worth. The Cleveland Cavaliers are a nice team, but hardly capable of winning a championship with the way they are currently constructed. In copmarison, the Spurs are the class of the league and should be commended for their accomplishments, which should include a fourth title since 1999.

The Cavs are a one-man show and made a nice run, especially in dispatching the Detroiot Pistons. But they are clearly overmatched in this series. They should be able to at least win one game, but any more than that would be a surpise.
