New York Knicks players and alumni have teamed up with the New York Liberty to provide memorable experiences for children and families in-need at the Liberty Outdoor Classic. Knicks forward David Leepurchased $15,000 in tickets for 1,000 children and donated them to the Garden of Dreams Foundation and other local charities. Additionally, Knicks forward Malik Rose will be sending single mothers and their families from the Coalition for Hispanic Family Services, Safe Space and Queens South Youth Parents Program to tomorrow’s historic event. Knicks alumnus John Starks is hosting a suite through the John Starks Foundation. The Liberty Outdoor Classic, pairing the WNBA’s New York Liberty against the Indiana Fever in the first regular season professional basketball game to ever be played outdoors, will take place tomorrow night at 7:30 pm on center court of Arthur Ashe Stadium located on the grounds of the USTA Billie Jean King Tennis Center in Flushing, Queens.
Â
Limited tickets for this historic event, with proceeds benefiting Breast Cancer Research, are still available by logging onto nyliberty.com.
Â
Prior to the game, a FREE fan-festival will be taking place outside Arthur Ashe Stadium from 5:00-7:30pm; it is open to the public. The festival will feature New York Knicks star David Lee with Knicks and Liberty alumni John Starks, Charles Smith, Cal Ramsey Kym Hampton, Teresa Weatherspoon and Sue Wicks; and former Big East and MSG’s 50 Greatest Moments Star Dwayne “Pearl” Washington. Children will also have the opportunity to enjoy carnival rides, interactive games and special Knicks and Liberty prizes.
